24 Hours in Kinsale: The Perfect Day by the Coast

Maybe it’s the sea air, the colourful streets, or the fact that every corner seems to lead to another delightful café, scenic view, or hidden gem, but there really is something about Kinsale that makes you slow down and unwind. Whether you’re visiting for a romantic getaway, a foodie escape, or simply a night away, Kinsale packs a lot into 24 hours.

If you’re planning a short break to Kinsale, we have some tips on how to make the most of your time.

Morning: Slow Starts with Scenic Views

Start your day with a leisurely breakfast overlooking Oysterhaven Bay before heading into town. One of the best things about Kinsale is that everything feels close by, so you can simply wander and see where life takes you.

Spend the morning exploring the winding streets lined with colourful shopfronts, boutiques, art galleries, and cafés. You’ll find plenty of little spots worth stepping into, from gift shops filled with local arts & crafts to bakeries serving fresh pastries and great coffee!

No trip to Kinsale is complete without visiting Charles Fort. Set on the water’s edge (and just around the corner from our hotel!), this historic star-shaped fort offers incredible harbour views and a glimpse into the town’s fascinating past. The walk between the town and the fort is one of the most scenic in the area, especially on a bright morning – so be sure to add this to your itinerary.

Afternoon: Food, Coastal Walks & Hidden Gems

Kinsale has earned its reputation as one of Ireland’s food capitals – lovingly known as the “Gourmet Capital of Ireland”, so lunch is something to look forward to. Choose from light bites, relaxed gastropubs, charming cafés or of course our luxurious Afternoon Tea – there really is something for every kind of foodie.

After lunch, take a stroll along the harbour and soak up the atmosphere. Depending on the season, you might spot sailing boats drifting through the water, water-based fun and games (especially during Kinsale Regatta) or catch the harbour cruise.

If you’re in the mood for a little adventure, head towards the Old Head of Kinsale for breathtaking coastal scenery. The dramatic cliffs and Atlantic views are worth the short drive alone and offer some of the most photographed landscapes along Ireland’s south coast.

Prefer a slower pace? Spend the afternoon unwinding in the spa, relaxing in the leisure club, or enjoying a quiet drink overlooking the bay.

Evening: Sunset, Seafood & a Taste of Kinsale

As evening arrives, Kinsale takes on a completely different vibe. The town’s restaurants begin to fill, the lights glow across the harbour, and there’s a relaxed buzz throughout the streets.

Enjoy a leisurely dinner with locally sourced ingredients, fresh Atlantic seafood, and a glass of wine or cocktail to end the day properly in our Rockpool Restaurant.

After dinner, take a stroll through our 90acres of woodland down to our tidal beach before heading back for a restful night’s sleep.
